About us
Who we are
We are a team of change-makers who believe that every helping hand can raise a child and create a better future for them.
Okoa Sasa is a CBO that started as a women’s group established in 2007 with the core objective of empowering women through training on various facets of life. These included entrepreneurial skills, reproductive health, and legal rights. The Empowerment of other marginalized groups such as children and young mothers constructively necessitated the growth from a women’s group to a Community Based Organization (CBO).
A rescue center was opened in Bamburi ward Mombasa county in 2014 and in March 2020 the same was opened in Mtepeni ward Kilifi county to shelter and house victims of Gender-Based Violence, victims of trafficking, lost and found children, victims of early marriages, and victims of traditional malpractices.
OKOA SASA means Save Now. In line with this belief which is reflected in the name, The organization was founded in 2013 by Grace Odembo a long-term and passionate social worker who found the need within herself to step in and champion child protection and young mothers’ rights, she individually hosted and stayed with children who had gone through SGBV support and protected them as she pursues justice for the victims. It’s through this zeal that the CBO roots run deep and attracted more support from individuals and organizations. Now running three rescue and rehabilitation centers, two in Mombasa Utange and Kiembeni area and One in Kilifi Mtepeni area hosting girls and young mother survivors of SGBV.
By virtue of offering support to the needy. Okoa sasa now focuses more on children, young and expectant mothers who have been neglected, trafficked, violated, abused, and harassed sexually. Physically and emotionally and in realizing this Okoa Sasa has recently opened a girl’s Centre in Mtepeni ward.
